16th Annual KD Gala

No Glitz, No Glam

16th KD Gala event at the Golden Years Society from 12:00pm – 5:00pm

KD Gala has had several themes over the years and decided to go with the grassroots of the Gala, ‘No Glitz, No Glam”, this event started 16 years ago as a give back to the United Way, but also to bring awareness to those most vulnerable in our community. This year’s guest speaker is someone who overcame addition and couch surfing and is now putting in as much effort to go work everyday as they did with their addition.  Local artist Dan Tulk will serenade the afternoon way while guests can purchase delectable baked goods, 50/50 tickets, silent auction and of course the main event is the KD.

Six Local chef will create their version of macaroni and cheese for our 100 plus guests.  The guest will vote for their favorite creation.

Chefs are: Surekha’s on the Snye, Jennifer Sandmoen, Bear and Buffalo Restaurant, Jessica King, Avenue Eatery & Café, and Smokin Butcher!

Local bakers have agreed to provide some of their delicious baked goods for our bake sale.  And would like to thank them for their support: Carrie Griffin, The Newfie Sugar Mana, Divine Custom Cakes, Debbie and Friends, Ruth’s Sweet and Treats, Melanie Swain, Ginger’s Bannock House, Evermore Kookie, and Cobbs Bakery.

Centre of Hope is truly blessed to have our community come together, show support for two great non-profit organizations, United Way and Centre of Hope.  Without this support it would be very difficult to care for our most vulnerable population within the Wood Buffalo Region.

Centre of Hope is always seeking donations and funding all year around, so when we do have an event, it is a way to give back to our community and say thank you for your support, kindness, and generosity.

“No glitz, No glam” is our moto as we support humans in need that do not have the luxury of attending events, as they are wondering where their next meal or bed will be. It can be difficult to comprehend for many of us, but lack of shelter and food insecurity is a real and prevalent issue in our region.

As humans, we all have an urge to feel needed and to have a sense of belonging, this is no different for individuals experiencing homelessness. You will never realize the impact a smile and kind word will have on someone’s day, take the time to say hello and smile as you never know one day you might be right there walking in those same shoes.
